In a career spanning more than 52 years on the Loyola Marymount University faculty, Paul De Sena has established a reputation for outstanding teaching, mentoring, scholarship and service, both at LMU and in advocating for school counselors at the local, state, regional, national and international levels.
The latest recognition of De Sena’s contributions came when the SOE professor of counselor education was named 2018 Counselor Educator of the Year by the California Association of School Counselors. The prestigious award was presented at the CASC State Conference in Riverside, California, in October 2018.
De Sena has served in several leadership roles over the years in the SOE and the university, including director of SOE’s School Psychology program and Counselor Education program, chairperson of LMU’s Department of Education – prior to the establishment of the SOE – and LMU faculty senator. De Sena has taught thousands of graduate students who, by going on to become committed school counselors, have influenced the lives of countless students at all school levels. He has received numerous honors from professional organizations, including awards for individual achievement, distinguished service, and outstanding mentorship and advocacy.
